Evolution Trio 2019 |
Robert Nissim - piano |
|
The three band members met at the City College Jazz Performance undergraduate program, and the trio was formed in February 2017 to showcase a Bill Evans arrangement of “Who Can I Turn To” for a Fred Hersch masterclass. Building on the adrenalin of this event, the trio has gone on to explore the repertoire and arrangements of famous piano trios like Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal, Monty Alexander, Kevin Hays, and Bob James. The trio rehearses regularly, working hard to perfect and refine a challenging repertoire which spans from heart-wrenching ballads to up-tempo swingers, with forays into Brazilian samba, reggae groove, and Latin-jazz. Trio leader Robert explains: “We love to explore ideas about rhythm and swing, always looking for ways to make the music more exciting and dynamic”. Drummer Alejandro, a native of Columbia, contributes his extensive knowledge of rhythmic styles to provide a propulsive drive, while bassist Moto holds down the fort with rock-solid bass lines, providing the foundation for improvisation by each member of the band. The trio is on an exciting journey of discovery, hence the name Evolution Trio. |
