Working as a Musican

Most musicians make a living by doing a lot of piecemeal jobs and gigs. If you're a god performer, you will likely be invited to play as a substitute in established bands, or theatre bands and orchestras for seasonal work. Expect to be called at short notice to cover for colleagues who are temporarily unavailable, for health or travel reasons.

If you have a put together an exciting show, you will have more control over your shedule, but it's probably wise to hire a manager or booking agent to organize concerts and tours.

The music world is very competitive, so you will have to engage actively in networking in order to be at the top of a potential employer's list.

Below are three key categories that you may find yourself working in.

Performance

If you are an exceptionally talented intrumentalist, then you can make a living playing concerts

Education

Teaching is great way to stay connected with the theory and practice of music without the pressure of performing extensively.
